A first-person shooter game called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was created by Infinity Ward and released by Activision in 2009. It is the sixth Call of Duty game and the immediate follow-up to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. On November 10, 2009, it was made available globally for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Windows. On the same day, Modern Warfare: Mobilized, a different version for the Nintendo DS, was also launched. Aspyr created a version for macOS, which was made available in May 2014. In addition, the Xbox 360 version was made backwards compatible with the Xbox One in 2018.The game's campaign follows Task Force 141, a multinational special operations force under the command of Captain Soap MacTavish, as they track Vladimir Makarov, the head of the Russian Ultranationalist party, and 1st Battalion/75th Ranger Regiment U.S. Army Rangers who are defending the Washington, D.C. region from a Russian invasion. Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson of the 141 and Private James Ramirez of the Army Rangers are the major playable characters in the game, with Captain MacTavish unlocking playability later in the campaign. The game includes a sizable multiplayer mode with a number of new features and modes that weren't present in its predecessor.
